San Juan Hills is aptly named - as this beautiful championship course certainly features a very hilly terrain. Recognized as Orange County's best golf value, this layout is nestled in the rolling hills of San Juan Capistrano, and offers breathtaking vistas and first rate service and amenities. The changing topography and fine conditioning make this a popular choice for golfers of all skill levels.
With facilities that can host up to 300 guests, this property is also a popular venue for wedding and special events - with a variety of food and beverage packages offered, and a great range of event services available. The temporary clubhouse also features a pro shop and barbeque grill area - and a new upscale clubhouse is in the plans for 2008. Breakfast and lunch items are now served in the restaurant/lounge and outdoor patio.
Practice facilities are comprehensive and consist of a driving range with grass and mat tee stations, putting green plus short game area with sand bunker. Pro Shot GPS is standard on all carts and yardage markers are positioned at 100, 150 and 200 yards, with blocks on the fairways and color coded stakes near the cart paths.
Bunkering is a strong feature here, as 61 sand traps frame the greens or are located near the landing zones off the tee. Water comes into play on four holes, but the real challenge is in the topography as most fairways are sloping and many are tightly sculpted out of lines of tress or hillsides.
The green complexes are generally raised and are mildly undulating - land in regulation and good scores can be had. End up in one of the may deep faced sand bunkers, and up and downs can be a chore. The natural beauty of the elevation changes and dramatic hillside locations makes it all worthwhile however, and the rate structure is thus that once you try San Juan hills, you will want to come back!
