COYOTE HILLS GOLF CLUB (714-672-6800)
Orange County/Los Angeles, California golf course review
Coyote Hills is a beautiful 4-star (Golf Digest Places to Play) par 72 championship design featuring a manicured, rolling terrain set in an incredibly serene golf environment with fairways often lined by mature trees on both sides. Dramatic elevation changes and numerous creek crossings add to the aesthetic beauty of one of Southern California's top open-for-public-play courses.
With 52 soft sand bunkers in play and 7 holes featuring water in play in some shape or form, Coyote Hills presents a fair yet demanding golf experience for all levels of players. Accuracy is more important than distance on this course, though with 7 par fours of greater than 400 yards, there is ample opportunity to use a driver off the tee.
The greens complexes are medium in size and mildly undulating, with swales and collection areas awaiting miss-hit approach shots. Contoured sand bunkers also help to make up and downs a challenge. From the two back tees, golfers will encounter some formidable carries over deep ravines off the tee. From the blue, white and red tee areas, this course is very player friendly.
The five sets of tees are evenly interspersed, affording players of all abilities an opportunity to choose a set that matches their game. The tips play to 6510 yards with a 135 slope, while alternate sets measure in distance and slope - 6007 yards/128 slope, 5618 yards/124 slope for men and 141 for women, 5142 yards/118 slope for men and 132 for women, and 4437 yards with a user friendly slope of 115 for ladies using the forward tees.
On course yardage markers are situated on the cart paths at 100, 150 and 200 yards, and 150 yard plates are posted on the fairways of all par fours and fives. Pro Link GPS - standard on all carts, provides hole diagrams and accurate measurements from tee to pin.
The practice facilities are comprehensive and consist of a targeted grass range with mat and grass tee stations, 2 putting greens, plus a short game area with sand bunker. The clubhouse features a pro shop plus restaurant/lounge serving lunch items daily and breakfast on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Men and women also can enjoy the locker rooms with showers.
Great course, fine facilities and service, central location - we highly recommend a round here! For more info, visit our page for the course, with direct link to their website by clicking here.
