EAGLE GLEN GOLF CLUB (951-272-4653)
Orange County/Los Angeles, California golf course review
Eagle Glen Golf Club in Corona about 50 miles southeast of Los Angeles, is a par 72, Gary Roger Baird 18-hole championship design that has been recognized with 4 stars by Golf Digest Places to Play. This scenic layout, which is managed by Troon Golf, opened in 1999 and includes two distinctive nines with quick rolling greens and significant bunkering. Featuring great facilities and top notch conditioning, this course also allows walking at any time, helping to make it a favorite of locals and visitors alike.
From the veranda outside the clubhouse restaurant/lounge, visitors are treated to gorgeous views of the valley and neighboring hillsides, from which the course is sculpted. The dining facility has gained a reputation for serving excellent food in a luxurious atmosphere, and the 6,000 square feet of flexible banquet space can accommodate up to 400 people for weddings, outing and special events. The club also features locker rooms with showers fro men and women, plus a fully stocked pro shop with the latest in brand name accessories and attire.
Practice facilities include a targeted grass range, short game area with sand bunker, plus putting green. Lessons of all types from a staff of PGA certified instructors are available. On course the yardage marking system consists of 100, 150 and 200 yard indicators on the fairways and sprinkler heads are also measured to the center of the green. Pin placements charts mounted one ach cart provides information on the day's hole locations.
The course is an extremely interesting design, with layered tee boxes that are often sculpted from the hillsides that lead to a variation of green complexes with large sloping putting surfaces. The terrain is very hilly, with well conditioned fairways that play up and down the mountain sides. The initial hole plays into a beautiful valley, while the 2nd and third holes climb steadily upwards. The par three 4th - which is all carry over a ravine, and the par three 8th, which also demands a formidable carry, are two extremely beautiful par threes.
The back side is just as spectacular, and challenges with 59 sand bunkers out of the total of the 105 on property. Water comes into play on just one hole on this course - but it is a beauty! The 543 yard par five 18th is a gorgeous finishing hole, with a lake situated to the right off the tee, and to the left on the approach, with little room for error. This is a great risk/reward hole, which can make or break a round.
There are numerous forced carries from the two back tees (6930 yards/136 slope and 6290 yards/129 slope), but this layout is quite player friendly from the two forward tees (5659 yards/122 slope for men and 121 for women, and 4998 yards with a slope of 113 from the forward sets. This is an outstanding golf course, set in an upscale environment with top notch amenities and service - with an extremely reasonable rate structure.
