INDUSTRY HILLS GOLF CLUB Zaharias (626-810-4653)
Orange County/Los Angeles, California golf course review
General Information
The Pacific Palms Resort - a short distance from LA and Orange Counties, is recognized as one of the top golf destinations in southern California. Surrounded by the San Gabriel Mountains, the resort features two championship golf courses that have been rated with 4 stars by Golf Digest Places to Play. The photos in this review are of the Eisenhower layout.
The golf facilities on property include 36 holes of championship golf, a double decked, ultra modern driving range that is lit for night practice with lessons and clinics available, plus a pro shop. The resort features a variety of accommodations (292 rooms total), an outdoor Oasis Pool and Jacuzzi, The Spa at Pacific Palms Resort, 45,000 square feet of meeting/conference/special event facilities, plus dining options that include the popular Cima Restaurant, and their new upscale Red Restaurant and Bar. For more info on the resort, click here to visit the Pacific Palms website.
While there is an abundance of beautiful golf courses in Southern California, strangely there are not many golf resorts. This facility features wonderful stay and play packages, and combined with great service and fine amenities, this is a perfect spot for a golf getaway. Guests walk out of their room and onto one of the two golf courses without having to drive or back their golf bags. And with two courses, this is also a great place for outings and tournament, as the facility can accommodate nearly 300 players.
Both courses are serviced by the same clubhouse/pro shop, and guests can enjoy the fine dining or grab a sandwich or beverage at one of two snack bar areas. The range features 64 mat tee stations (lit until 11 pm), a putting green and a beautiful short game area with sand bunker available for an hourly fee. On course yardage markers are posted on cart paths at 100, 150 and 200 yards, and sprinkler heads are measured to front, middle and back of the green. Color coded flags indicate the day's hole locations. Carts are equipped with ball & club washers, plus ice chests with bottled water.
ZAHARIAS REVIEW
The Zaharias is the original design at Industry Hills, and features 4 sets of tee boxes that play to distances and slopes measuring 6826 yards/135 slope, 6552 yards/132 slope, 6088 yards/126 slope for men and 138 for women, and 5333 yards with a slope of 129 for women hitting from the forward sets. Bunkering is strategic with 46 sand traps in total, and water hazards come into play on 4 holes.
The sloping fairways are tree lined (some tightly) and often contour in one direction or another, creating some interesting doglegs. Some holes run parallel, with trees and layered slopes separating the playing surfaces. The green complexes provide significant recovery room in the grassy mounds and swales, and the putting surfaces are often long and narrow. There are no residential buildings on property, as this golf experience is one of seclusion. The par three 13th and 17th are memorable holes, with both playing over landscaped ponds.
We highly recommend a stay and play, or a round on either of the two courses on property. For more info, visit our page for the Zaharias, with direct link to the Pacific Palms website by clicking here.
