ROBINSON RANCH GOLF CLUB Mountain Course (661-252-8484) - Closed
Orange County/Los Angeles, California golf course review
Robinson Ranch in Santa Clarita just north of Los Angeles, is a 36-hole championship facility with 2 beautiful courses that have been awarded 4 stars by Golf Digest Places to Play. Designed in 2000 by T.Robinson and T Robinson Jr, the Mountain and Valley courses received the distinction of being voted as having the best greens in Los Angeles County. The layouts are nestled at the base of the Los Angeles National Forest and offer breathtaking views of the Santa Clarita Valley.
The two story 25,000 square foot clubhouse features a rustic ranch decor, and includes a nicely stocked pro shop plus full service restaurant/lounge with picture windows. Banquet facilities that can accommodate up to 250 guests and a conference room with capacity to facilitate internet usage for up to 20 people, make this a wonderful venue for meetings and events. The beautifully landscaped, cascading waterfall that runs from the clubhouse to the 18th green helps to provide an aesthetically pleasing environment as well.
There also are locker rooms with showers for men and women, and a snack shop serves sandwiches and beverages for those looking for something quick. Practice facilities include a targeted range with mat hitting stations, plus putting greens. Carts are equipped with ball & club washers, plus mounted pin placement charts. On course yardages are posted at 100, 150 and 200 yards on cart paths and fairways, sprinkler heads are measured to the center of the green, and 25 yard markers are positioned from 200 - 100 yards.
MOUNTAIN COURSE
The Mountain Course is a gorgeous layout that presents aspects of desert, mountain and parkland designs all in one. Beautiful hillside scenery is complimented by landscape desert areas, cascading streams and sculpted tee boxes that lead to rolling, well maintained fairways. The landing zones are usually ample, but some are tightly tree lined or are squeezed by the desert. The raised green complexes feature medium size, mildly sloping putting surfaces, some with multiple tiers.
Golfers will encounter frequent elevation changes with some hillside tee areas along the way. There are some forced carries over desert and ravines, and water hazards come into play on four holes. 62 sand bunkers are situated greenside, or are strategically located near the landing zones on the fairways. The par threes are beautiful, and the short risk/reward par four 8th is one of the more memorable golf holes.
Everything is meticulously cared for here, from the curbed cart paths to the manicured landscaping on-course. Four sets of tees are fairly evenly interspersed and play to distances and slopes measuring 6508 yards/137 slope, 6172 yards/134 slope, 5773 yards/129 slope and 5076 yards with a slope of 121 from the forward tees.
